This morning, the GLOW Region's school social workers were celebrated in a big way as NYSSSWA President Wendy Castiglia visited Genesee Valley BOCES to personally present awards recognizing their statewide achievements! At the New York State School Social Workers Association (NYSSSWA) annual conference in November 2024, GLOW social workers swept the awards, with seven of the eleven honorees coming from our region: 🌟 Baylee Barrett - Avon Central School District 🌟 Nicole Carey - Hornell Central School District 🌟 Courtney Hathaway - Geneseo Central School District 🌟 Anna Lynah - Caledonia-Mumford Central School District 🌟 Julie Snaith - Wayland-Cohocton Central Schools 🌟 Laura Wadsworth - Dansville Central School District The highlight of the morning was Jenna Poinan from Alexander Central School District receiving the prestigious Ruth Schwartz School Social Worker of the Year Award for her unwavering dedication to children, families, and the field. School counselors attended the annual Counselors’ Luncheon hosted by Genesee Valley BOCES at the Batavia CTE campus. The day began with visits to CTE classrooms, where counselors observed students actively engaged in their programs. Lunch, prepared by Culinary Arts students under the guidance of Chef Santos and Patricia Burak, was served in the Culinary Café. Counselors also received custom phone holders made by the Building Trades program. After lunch, they toured additional classrooms to see students in action, gaining valuable insight into the hands-on learning experiences offered at the campus.

School counselors from component districts participated in the annual Counselors’ Day at the Mount Morris Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center. The day began with visits to their morning students in action, followed by a delicious lunch prepared by Culinary Arts students under the guidance of Chef Robert Derin and Ms. Jay. After lunch, the new EMS program presented highlights of their learning experience, and counselors toured the new student food pantry. The event wrapped up with afternoon classroom visits, where counselors observed their students engaged in hands-on learning.
