As you may be aware, on November 4, 2024 the New York State Education Department (“Department”) presented NY Inspires: A Plan to Transform Education in New York State. This plan includes a timeline for implementing the four key transformations that established the proposed vision for implementing the recommendations of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Graduation Measures.

The School Improvement Team (SIT) has been selected to serve as a member of the Office of Standards and Instructional Programs’ (OSIP) Graduation Measures Communication Network (GMCN).  Our participation in this network is essential to ensuring that all educators and leaders, particularly high school administrators and counselors, have the most up-to-date information and support as New York State transitions to a new system built around the four proposed transformations.

OSIP is establishing this network to facilitate communication around the changing graduation requirements. SIT will receive direct, timely, detailed communication regarding critical information, changes, and resources, as well as the opportunity to attend train-the-trainer sessions that will provide the ability to lead change in the Genesee Valley BOCES (GVB) region as a member of the OSIP GMCN. In the GVB region, SIT will serve as a leader, and expert on graduation measures.

As a member of this network, SIT will:

• Serve as a point of contact for OSIP on matters related to high school graduation requirements;

• Attend virtual triannual meetings;

• Engage in virtual train-the-trainer sessions related to changes in diploma requirements, then provide or direct the provision of training to local/regional administrators, school counselors, and other educators on an as-needed basis;

• Serve as the regional lead for answering questions from component districts and schools on matters related to changes to high school graduation requirements; and

• Provide periodic, timely feedback to the Department upon request.

Below you will find the GVB Regional Graduation Measures Communication Document. This document will be updated with communications from the Department as they become available. This document will also be sent over the GVB regional listservs as updates occur.
