GV BOCES Cosmetology students had an extraordinary opportunity to connect with industry professionals during a visit from Harry Bruno, owner of the highly acclaimed Harry Bruno Salon in Rochester, and his staff member, Gavin Wade, a proud GV BOCES graduate. With over 40 years of experience, Harry shared his remarkable journey in the hairstyling industry, from building a thriving client base to traveling to London and New York City for advanced training. His insights gave students a glimpse into the dedication and passion needed for a successful career in cosmetology.
Students had the chance to engage in an open Q&A session, tapping into Harry's wealth of knowledge and experience. Gavin Wade, a testament to the opportunities provided by GV BOCES, added a unique perspective as he shared his own journey from student to professional stylist. The event culminated in an interactive haircut and blow-dry demonstration, where students were invited to join in and gain invaluable hands-on experience alongside direct instruction from Harry and Gavin.
Cosmetology teacher Michael Barnard, who began his career working with Harry and continues to work with him on weekends after 17 years, expressed gratitude for Harry and Gavin's willingness to take time out of their busy schedules to inspire and educate the next generation of stylists. This memorable day left students feeling motivated and better prepared for their own professional paths in the cosmetology field.
